About the Ph.D. Integrated Fellowship

 FELLOWSHIP COMPONENTS:

  1. Teaching (Job Shadowing) 
    • Regularly observe a SDCCD course and meet with the instructor(s) to debrief the observation, reflect on the class, and ask questions
    • Guest lecture for at least 2 course sessions, co-create and discuss individual lesson plans with instructor(s)
    • Participate in exam preparation, garner experience with grading and providing feedback to community college students, and engage in intentional conversations about the diversity represented in the community college classroom
    • Write monthly and bi-monthly reflections to document and assess the experience
  • Administration
    • In rotation, shadow administrators in departments of Student Affairs and Services, Research Affairs, Instructional Services/Educational Affairs, Advancement or other relevant areas to experiment and prepare for leadership opportunities via direct participation in activities that build and strengthen collaborative administrative skills
    • Explore interests in partnership with administration; participate in relevant events, meetings, and initiatives (such as DEI taskforces, departmental meetings, student equity initiatives, academic senate, board meetings, and DGC [district governance council]), and schedule one-on-one meetings with administrators throughout the district
  • Mentoring
    • Mentor one SDCCD student with an emphasis on transfer guidance and career/graduate school preparation; ensure mentee engages in all required PATH program activities.
    • Provide SDCCD students with exposure to UC San Diego resources, databases, and graduate courses.
    • Organize an undergraduate reading group and discussion.
