Faculty Connections

Collaborative Steering Committee

The PATH program has done well to foster fruitful faculty connections that have produced collaborative research, the sharing of culturally responsive pedagogy, and a deepened understanding of preparing community-college students for transfer and success at a research university.

UC San Diego and SDCCD works to maintain the collaborative steering committee while simultaneously fostering an environment of innovative initiatives from faculty that supports student recruitment and transfer, as well as student success of UC San Diego and SDCCD students. The committee meets to discuss the goals, content and methods of a humanities education, and to strengthen the vision for the collaborative.

In 2024, PATH faculty connections expanded to include three components:

  • Professional Development
  • Curriculum Innovation
  • Career Preparation

Deepening Engagement

Over the years, faculty involved with the PATH program worked across institutions to deepen engagement in the Arts and Humanities in a variety of ways. Innovative initiatives supported student recruitment and transfer, as well as the student success of UC San Diego and SDCCD students.

Successful examples of past initiatives include:

  • Undergraduate Philosophy reading group led by SDCCD and UC San Diego faculty
  • Italian Studies professors from both institutions taking students on a joint field trip to see “Rigoletto”
  • SDCCD and UC San Diego students attended joint workshops on “Storytelling” and “How to Sustain a Creative Life”
  • SDCCD Philosophy professor audited a UC San Diego class to take elements of it back to SDCCD
  • Faculty from both institutions coming together over dinner to discuss innovative humanities pedagogy
